In the spirit of the original VAXbar, I intend to convert an old VAX mini computer to a "minibar". However, since it feels really sad to see an old computer (especially this one, with which I have spent many a happy moment) die - I intend to bring it back to life in it's converted form. "How can this be?", you ask yourself. Easy - the VAXbar will include a small pc computer (probably Mini-ITX) running the wonderful piece of software called SIMH, emulating a real live VAX. |
Below is the intended object:

2004-11-28My friends didn't think the project was getting anywhere, so for my birthday they brought me the 8600 with a red ribbon tied around it : )Today I've pretty much stripped it down to the frame. Will try to get some pictures of this up soon, but I don't (yet) have a digital camera of my own... |
2004-11-29Update - I now have pictures of the stripped frame. |
2004-12-13I now have the SIMH incarnation of Hemulen up and running BSD 4.3 Quasijarus. |
2005-08-20Oops, have forgotten to update the page for quite some time now.Bad news is that the harddrive with the Quasijarus insstallation crashed. Good news is that I now have gotten to work with the practical stuff: I'm going to build a wine cooler (or rather 2 - 1 red and 1 white). For this purpose I have aquired a peltier element (60W), and a phidget 4-relay board. I also have two working temperature sensors. I intend to get to work trying to revive the Quasijarus installation today. |
